Face to Face
Gerald Peters Gallery March 18 – April 30, 2011

Gerald Peters Gallery, Santa Fe is pleased to announce Face to Face, opening on March 18th and running through April 30th . The exhibition will feature over twenty nationally and internationally known artists, the exhibit focuses on the overt and subconscious associations that are created between the artists and their subjects but, perhaps even more importantly, the manner in which these same works themselves spur individual dialogues with the viewer.

This underscores the idea that the impact drawn from the creative act itself is not accomplished by the artist alone but instead is a product of the collaborative nature the viewer plays as witness to the moment. As Marcel Duchamp observed, “the spectator brings the work in contact with the external world by deciphering and interpreting its inner qualifications and thus adds his contribution to the creative act.” As a result, the works become a mirror reflecting the relationship between the viewer, the artist, and the subject, each responding to the moment through their own desires, reveries, or anxieties.

Artists featured in the exhibition include Andy Warhol, Chuck Close, John Mellencamp, David Hockney, Kristina Gale, Brenda Zlamany, Eric Ernst, David Slater, David Gamble, Linda Alpern, Billy Sullivan, Nan Goldin, Bo Bartlett, Julie Speed, Victoria Carlson, Ali Silverstein, Christopher Benson, Paton Miller and others.
