On May 31, 2011 Shout! Factory will release A MusiCares Tribute to Neil Young, a collection of these never-before-seen performances on DVD and Blu-ray. A must have for Neil Young fans as well music DVD collectors, A MusiCares Tribute to Neil Young will also debut on MTVs’s HD channel Palladia on Memorial Day Weekend 2011.

The annual MusiCares Person of the Year tribute dinner and silent auction take place in Los Angeles during GRAMMYWeek. Each year, the dinner honors a recording artist who has made important contributions to the world of music and has demonstrated extraordinary humanitarian and philanthropic efforts. The event generates significant financial support for MusiCares and draws attention to the critical work of the organization.

Neil Young was recognized for his influential artistic accomplishments as well as his philanthropic work, which is as renowned as his musical legacy. He was one of the original founders of Farm Aid in 1985 and continues to be an active member on the organization's board of directors. Each October, he and his wife Pegi organize and host the Bridge School Concerts, a benefit for the Bridge School that he and Pegi helped found. Previous MusiCares honorees include Bono, Natalie Cole, Neil Diamond, Luciano Pavarotti, Bonnie Raitt, Brian Wilson and Stevie Wonder, just to name a few.

Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards and accolades including an Oscar® nomination in 1993 for his song “Philadelphia” from the film Philadelphia. Additionally, he was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1982 and has twice been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame — in 1995 for his solo work and in 1997 as a member of Buffalo Springfield.

A MusiCares Tribute to Neil Young Blu-ray is 1080i with 5.1 DTS Master Audio and stereo options and the DVD features 16:9 widescreen video, with 5.1 DTS, 5.1 Dolby Digital and stereo options. Both videos offer a unique insider look into one of music’s most esteemed and philanthropic events.

Proceeds from the sale of this product will provide essential support for MusiCares, which ensures that music people have a place to turn to in times of financial, medical and personal need. Since its inception, MusiCares has developed into a premier support system for music people, and its innovative programs and services are designed to meet the specific needs of its constituents. Last year MusiCares had a landmark year, serving the largest number of clients to date — 2,000 members of the music community — with more than $2.5 million in direct financial assistance.
