John Mellencamp Resumes Critically Acclaimed Plain Spoken Tour In April 2016

OFFICIAL TOUR PRESS RELEASE:

John Mellencamp Resumes Critically Acclaimed Plain Spoken Tour
Carlene Carter Returns to Support All Dates

New York, NY (Jan. 25, 2016) – “A triumphant, career-spanning show (Hollywood Reporter)”, “superb performance…still full of fiery defiance (Boston Globe)” and “as a performer, he delivered on every level (Dallas Morning News)” are just a few of the vivid descriptions attributed to John Mellencamp’s 80-date Plain Spoken Tour of 2015. On the strength of critical praise and high fan demand, the multiple Grammy Award winner and Rock and Roll hall of famer is set to resume the renowned tour with support artist Carlene Carter on April 1 at the Brady Theater in Tulsa, OK.

The tour will see Mellencamp hitting 13 all new cities and performing songs from 2015’s Plain Spoken, his 22nd studio album and one of the most lauded in his 40-year career, as well as his catalog of fan favorites. Praised as “stark, soul-baring (Billboard)” and drawing comparison to Bob Dylan’s Grammy-winning album ‘Blood on the Tracks,’ Plain Spoken draws on timely themes including political and social injustice, further cementing Mellencamp’s status as “arguably the most important roots rocker of his generation (Billboard).” Carlene Carter, daughter of June Carter Cash, opens the show each evening.

Produced by AEG Live, Plain Spoken Tour closes out April 23 in Albany, NY at the Palace Theatre. Tickets go on sale Fri., Jan. 29 and VIP tickets will be available at Mellencamp.com and axs.com.

Praise for Plain Spoken Tour:
“The bluesy rock and roll voice that made him a Hall of Famer has a bit of extra gravel these days. But one thing that hasn't changed about John Mellencamp, as he proved Jan. 27 on the first of a two-night stand at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, is that he puts on one of the most electrifying rock shows in the business.”
- AXS

“Friday night at a sold-out Louisville Palace, the 63-year-old Mellencamp had his share of fun — he's always been a consummate showman — but there was an underlying richness to his set that was far more impressive.”
- Louisville Courier Journal

“The near-capacity crowd roared its approval — they were shouting back the lyrics with the gusto of a bloodthirsty mob — and in doing so, validated his decades of furious, Midwestern rock and roll.”

JOHN MELLENCAMP Mellencamp’s career in music, spanning more than 35 years, has seen him transition from pop star to one of the most highly regarded songwriters of a generation. The Voice of The Heartland continues to evolve artistically with Plain Spoken—the first new music from the artist since 2010's critically acclaimed No Better Than This. Plain Spoken is John's 22nd full length album. Mellencamp is incredibly acclaimed. He is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a Grammy winner, a recipient of the John Steinbeck Award, ASCAP Foundation’s Champion Award, The Woody Guthrie Award, and Americana Music Association's Lifetime Achievement Award. He is also one of the most successful live concert performers in the world. The social activism reflected in his songs helped catalyze Farm Aid, the concert series and organization that has addressed the struggle of American family farmers for more than 25 years. The unique instrumentation of his band and his poignant songs about everyday life in the American heartland, are widely credited with being the forbearer of the Americana/No Depression genre of rural-inflected music. The Ghost Brothers of Darkland County is a musical with music and lyrics by John Mellencamp, a libretto by author Stephen King and production by T Bone Burnett. This extraordinary collaboration 16 years in the making is a haunting tale of fraternal love, lust, jealousy and revenge, performed by an ensemble cast of 15 actors and a four-piece live band, comprised of members of John Mellencamp’s band. The Musical completed 2 successful tours in North America. John Mellencamp recently completed an 80-city tour in North American in 2015, and is continuing the journey for more lucky fans in 2016.
