07/22/2015 - Read Jeff Bakers full show review after the jump, here is an excerpt: This is how a classic rock legend gets it done in concert: Start with a money's-worth opening act, Carlene Carter... Hire a crack six-piece band, men and women, black and white, and rehearse them until they're tight as a bass string. Dress them like the professionals they are, in suits and dresses, and make sure they move in the country-bluegrass tradition: upstage for a solo, fall back for support, everybody forward at the big moments. Have them come out first and play you on, the way Merle Haggard and George Jones did it. Start with a couple of your strongest new tunes that show you're still relevant, mix in a few hits early on, end with a roaring river of your best stuff, peak after peak until the crowd can't take it anymore. Leave them satisfied but wanting more. Encores are for amateurs. You've played 20 songs in two hours and given more than enough. Pay close attention to everything: pacing, lighting, sound, presentation. It's about pride. You are a star. This is what you do. Own it. Read More
07/21/2015 - AXS.com's Rick Hinton writes about the end of John's 2015 North American Tour: The final concert of the North American leg of John Mellencamp’s Plain Spoken Tour arrives in Indianapolis at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Tuesday, August 4, 2015. Hometown Indiana boy Mellencamp—“The Voice of the Heartland”—will circle back to where the tour originated in January of 2015 in his home state of Indiana (South Bend) to culminate at its final show in downtown Indianapolis. 06/08/2015 - John Mellencamp used to feel at home playing the biggest arenas and amphitheaters that could hold him during his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame career.

Nowadays, however, the “Small Town” guy likes the smaller places.

Some of it is pragmatic, he freely acknowledges. The albums and radio play are not as abundant as they were during the multiplatinum ’80s heyday of “American Fool,” “Uh-Huh,” “Scarecrow” and “The Lonesome Jubilee.” Fortunately, however, that dovetails with a time in his life when Mellencamp, at 63, has less interest in playing the big rock shows. 02/16/2015 - Mellencamp kicked off the show with “Lawless Times" off his 2014 album “Plain Spoken,” followed up by another new song, “Troubled Man.” From there it was a 30 year hop back to 1985 for “Minutes to Memories.” On the latter song, Mellencamp seemed to be channeling Tom Waits, singing with a raspy voice that perfectly matched the song’s beaten down lyrics. 01/03/2015 - Carlene Carter is the special guest on all 80 shows of the Plain Spoken Tour. Carlene, daughter of country music legends June Carter and Carl Smith, stepdaughter of Johnny Cash, and granddaughter of "Mother" Maybelle Carter of the original Carter Family, has been said to have been born into country music royalty. She prefers to think of herself, simply, as a Carter Girl which is the title of her current album on Rounder Records. She is a third generation member of the Carter Family whose pioneering recordings and songs were “ground zero” for American country and folk music. Read more about Carlene and watch some of her performances from her appearances at Farm Aid along with some classic videos after the jump. Read More
