10/18/2013 - The 2014 slate of nominees for induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame were announced on October 10, 2013. The organization, which is dedicated to recognizing the work and lives of those composers and lyricists who create popular music around the world, holds annual elections to determine those who will make up the roster of inductees for the following year.

Longtime Rolling Stone contributor Anthony DeCurtis commented on the singer "Mellencamp has created an important body of work that has earned him both critical regard and an enormous audience. His songs document the joys and struggles of ordinary people seeking to make their way, and he has consistently brought the fresh air of common experience to the typically glamour-addled world of popular music."
