09/22/2010 - Rosanne was first up, presenting the Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting to Mellencamp. “Americana is the box they put you in when you take your art too seriously to fit in any other box,” she said. She described the honoree as “a quintessentially American artist” and as “the pride of Indiana.”

“A songwriter tries to write something that can become part of the fabric of the listener,” Mellencamp said. “This award shows that some people are still listening, and I appreciate that very much.” Performing solo with acoustic guitar, he sang “Save Some Time to Dream” from his new Rounder CD No Better Than This. Copies of the CD were handed out to all attendees upon entering.

09/22/2010 - On September 22, 1985, Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp and Neil Young organized the first Farm Aid concert to help family farmers stay on their land. Twenty-five years later, with the added support of Dave Matthews, who joined the Farm Aid board of directors in 2001, Farm Aid leaders say the organization is going strong.

Farm Aid board members Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews will headline the event, to be hosted by award-winning broadcaster Tavis Smiley, at Miller Park in Milwaukee, WI. Recently announced acts including Kenny Chesney, Norah Jones, Jason Mraz, Jeff Tweedy, Band of Horses, The BoDeans, Amos Lee, Robert Francis, Lukas Nelson and The Promise of the Real, The Blackwood Quartet and Randy Rogers Band will join the lineup. 09/11/2010 - A fan has posted the audio of John's speech and performance at the Americana Music Awards from Thursday, September 9th, 2010. John was given their Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting at their event at Nashville TN's Ryman Auditorium. His friend Rosanne Cash presented him the award and John finished with a solo acoustic performance of "Save Some Time To Dream." After the jump we have a larger version of the YouTube slideshow.
