08/29/2016 - John Mellencamp, Jackson Browne and Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham are featured on the official soundtrack to the Showtime series Roadies, which was just released digitally and will be available for purchase as a physical album Friday, September 2. The record is made up almost entirely of new live performances by various artists, many of whom made cameo appearances on the show.  Purchase the official soundtrack now on Apple Music.  Purchase “Longest Days” from John's July 31, 2016 appearance HERE.

Roadies creator, writer and director Cameron Crowe explains of the show’s music, “Great care was taken that the songs chosen for each artist have another meaning, a thread to our story or characters. The only rule was: no lip-syncing to playback. Not even to live versions recorded in a previous take. These would be authentic live performances. Real performances. That’s where the magic happens, for an audience and even a crew.” Read More

08/26/2016 - This fall, before his concert at the Stranahan on Oct. 21, Mellencamp will return to Tent City, this time as the Honorary Mayor and Grand Marshal to kick off Tent City and the Veterans Matter Walk to End Veteran Homelessness.

The goal here in Toledo is to bring the national spotlight to Toledo’s compassion and our urgent mission to house 2,000 more veterans nationwide this year,” Leslie said.

To help the group raise additional funds, Mellencamp will also invite the highest Veterans Matter Walk fundraiser and a guest to his show that evening with a meet-and-greet immediately following. 04/29/2016 - On Wednesday night, April 27th John accepted the prestigious ASCAP Founders Award at the 33rd annual ASCAP Pop Music Awards. Here are some excerpts from his speech: “I never thought about being a songwriter,” said Mellencamp, accepting the ASCAP Founders Award, at the 33rd annual ASCAP Pop Music Awards. “So, when I got a record deal I thought I was just going to sing and they said: ‘No you got to write songs.'”

“Good thing for me back then there was a thing called artist development, where an artist could find himself and his voice,” the honoree added. Read Variety.com's complete article on the evening after the jump. Read More
04/28/2016 - ASCAP’s highest honor, The Founders Award, went to John Mellencamp for his exceptional contributions to music. Talk show host Tavis Smiley, who presented the award, gave a moving introduction about Mellencamp’s “Authority Song” being the anthem that he and fellow students at Indiana University-- in Mellencamp's hometown of Bloomington -- adopted as they protested the death of a black student named Denver Smith, who was killed by white officers after they shot him six times in the back.

In a passionate speech, Mellencamp talked about “growing up in public with my songwriting. It was a good thing for me back then, in the early ‘70s, that there was a thing called artist development, when artists could find themselves and their voice,” he said. “I think I made five or six albums before I sold five or six albums. Lucky for me I came along at that time. Now, today, there is no artist development and I’m not sure I’d want to become a songwriter today."

Mellencamp called for the industry to come together to stop free music on the Internet before more damage is done. “If not, then the quality of songwriting and the quality of music and the quality of the future of young songwriters is going to diminish down to nothing important and it’s just going to be no artist development and our business will shrink to “do you remember when.'" He then performed “Longest Days” from his 2008 album, Life, Death, Love and Freedom. Read More
