08.08.2015 - Proceeds from the final stop on John Mellencamp's U.S. tour in Indianapolis Tuesday went to the Riley Hospital for Children. It was a way for the singer to pay back the hospital that saved his life nearly 64 years ago, CBS News' Anthony Mason reports.

"Troubled Man" is the lead single of Mellencamp's latest album. His troubles started right at birth.

But for most of his 63 years, the singer knew little about the surgery he had as a newborn. Watch the video below and read the complete article after the jump.

07.31.2015 - In honor of Mellencamp’s August 4th date at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, the final show of a tour that has made a number of Indiana stops already, Jeff Vrabel, a freelance music writer for such outlets as GQ, Men's Health, Billboard and more compiled a scattered, highly unscientific, and 100 percent debatable list of Mellencamp’s best Hoosier concerts over the past four decades for the current issue of Indianapolis Monthly. As you might suspect, the list is culled from minutes and memories, so if yours are different, you can comment on the article online. Here are his choices, presented in chronological order "because we can’t really rank them. Well, except for maybe that one.." Read the 10 Greatest Indiana Shows after the jump. Read More

07.30.2015 - The concert began with a simple introduction. The lights went down and a male voice came over a P.A., saying, "Ladies and gentlemen, from Seymour, Indiana, Mr. John Mellencamp." The curtain lifted, revealing five men in black suits and a gowned fiddle player, and the band launched into the opening notes of "Lawless Times." Soon after, Mellencamp entered the stage, causing the packed crowd of thousands to stand up and cheer. Read David Accomazzo of the Phoenix News Times complete show review after the jump. Read More

07.29.2015 - John Mellencamp made good on his promise to do a show that fans who appreciate musicianship and songwriting would enjoy. Read Kelli Skye Fadroski's complete show review from the Microsoft Theater after the jump. Here are some excerpts: "Though his vocal is certainly standout and easily identified, he has always sounded a bit like the late Joe Cocker, mixed with some Bob Dylan and a dash of Leonard Cohen..."

"When he belts out, “I am a troubled man,” it’s believable. The same goes for “The Isolation of Mister” when the music lowers and he honestly delivers, “Thought I was livin’ a life of freedom, but I was living in a cage...” Read More

07.25.2015 - David Lindquist of the Indianapolis Star interviews John where he confirms some exciting news: "Plans to make a duets album with Carter"

"Then it’s off to Australia for more than a dozen shows"

Candid talk is a defining Mellencamp trait, and “Plain Spoken” is the name of the album he released last September. An 80-date tour to promote the album wraps up on Aug. 4 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

The Seymour, Ind., native is performing a wealth of folk and country-blues tunes in a show the 63-year-old characterizes as being “age appropriate.Read the complete article after the jump. Read More

07.25.2015 - "I think that John Mellencamp might be the coolest guy on the planet. He’s the personification of the most interesting man in the world. He’s got the stories, the songs, the women, the style, and an entourage of brilliant musicians and producers to back it all up. He’s the very definition of Americana and often cited as the only roots rocker who matters to his generation and pretty much my lifetime..." Read Jason Miller's complete show review after the jump. 07.22.2015 - Read Jeff Bakers full show review after the jump, here is an excerpt: This is how a classic rock legend gets it done in concert: Start with a money's-worth opening act, Carlene Carter... Hire a crack six-piece band, men and women, black and white, and rehearse them until they're tight as a bass string. Dress them like the professionals they are, in suits and dresses, and make sure they move in the country-bluegrass tradition: upstage for a solo, fall back for support, everybody forward at the big moments. Have them come out first and play you on, the way Merle Haggard and George Jones did it. Start with a couple of your strongest new tunes that show you're still relevant, mix in a few hits early on, end with a roaring river of your best stuff, peak after peak until the crowd can't take it anymore. Leave them satisfied but wanting more. Encores are for amateurs. You've played 20 songs in two hours and given more than enough. Pay close attention to everything: pacing, lighting, sound, presentation. It's about pride. You are a star. This is what you do. Own it. Read More

07.21.2015 - AXS.com's Rick Hinton writes about the end of John's 2015 North American Tour: The final concert of the North American leg of John Mellencamp’s Plain Spoken Tour arrives in Indianapolis at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Tuesday, August 4, 2015. Hometown Indiana boy Mellencamp—“The Voice of the Heartland”—will circle back to where the tour originated in January of 2015 in his home state of Indiana (South Bend) to culminate at its final show in downtown Indianapolis. 07.13.2015 - One of the most important musical acts of his generation, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee John Mellencamp lives up to the billing and then some.

06.19.2015 - With a voice now more gravel than sweet and a frame suggesting he has experienced every one of his 63 years, John Mellencamp and a six-member band brought the tour behind his 2014 work Plain Spoken to the Merriam Theater this past Tuesday. Bluesy, inventive and energetic, it was one of my favorite concerts so far this year. Read the Chris Sikich's complete blog review after the jump. Read More

06.08.2015 - At 63, Mellencamp is far removed from the youthful roar that identified his youth – precisely why he dropped the "Cougar" from between "John" and "Mellencamp." He's touring theaters instead of arenas, writing contemplative records instead of slick, catchy ones. He claims he was never comfortable with fame. His songs have never been more sincere (although they've never been phony, even the massive, evergreen hits).

If you think this is an elaborate way of calling the guy old, well, you're wrong. He's more credible and authentic than ever – and here are five reasons why: Read More

02.23.2015 - When you hear the unfiltered roughness in John Mellencamp's voice during “The Isolation,” you're quickly aware that this popular roots rock singer from Indiana wasn't kidding when he titled his new album, Plain Spoken. With its added wheezy harmonica solo, Mellencamp gives this song a truly Dylan-esque sincerity. It comes off a lot like recent Dylan music, where the man has become quite the self-reflective one.
